Freestyle/Play Boats/Rodeo Boats
This boat is designed for tricks on any kind of river feature, and is especially for the paddler who wants to excel on waves and holes. Sharp edges, a short planing hull, nearly vertical sidewalls and centralized volume distribution allows for aggressive spins, cartwheels, flips and high velocity maneuvers. Many whitewater kayakers find this the most enjoyable kind of boating and it is often the most convenient. This is a great choice for the advanced paddler looking for hours of river play and aqua acrobatics. We carry a number of Jackson Star Series boats in this catagory.
Free Running Kayaks
Though these are similar to play boats in length, they are for the paddler who wants to play the entire river instead of just one feature. This boat still has the planing hull, carving edge and centralized volume characteristics, but also has the right length, volume and stability for navigating intermediate rivers. These also have a more beveled sidewall than freestyle boats, which makes them more forgiving and easier to roll. Come check out our selection of boats in the Jackson Fun.
River Running Kayaks
This is a diverse kayak for boaters of all abilities, and is particularly recommended for those who are beginners to whitewater. They track well, while still allowing for smooth carves and wave surfing. These are great for high volume rivers, and provide stability in rough water, with enough agility to play large river features. The length allows for more time to respond to currents and the beveled sidewall on this boat also makes for easy rolling. Currently we carry the Jackson Hero, the Pyranha Burn, and the Wave Sport Diesel river running kayaks.
Creek Boats
These are similar to river runners but with more volume. They have a rounder top with very little edge and lots of rocker (rounded hull) to bounce of boulders and rocks. Designed for use in steep, technical and challenging rivers and dropping off waterfalls, these are the ideal boat for navigating the most difficult white water in remote locations. The high volume in the bow and stern will keep you floating on top of the water and in control. This is also a great boat for safety and rescue and can even be packed with gear for self-sustaining overnighters. We carry the Pyranha Burn and the Jackson Villian here at Tumalo Creek.
