Pickin' & Paddlin' Music Series and Demo Days

On September 22, 2010, Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe hosts the last of five nights of live music and boat demos on the back lawn behind the store, on the banks of the Deschutes River. From 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tumalo Creek’s fleet of 50 demo boats will be available to try for free with plenty of paddling experts on hand to answer any questions and get boaters comfortable out on the water. The music series and demo days are a fundraiser for the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance (BPTA) and donations are encouraged. The series is officially sponsored by Cascade Lakes Brewing, and they provide all the beverages for the event.

The music starts at 7 p.m., and features electroacoustic experimental bluegrass by Pitchfork Revolution.

One of the primary goals of the Pickin’ and Paddlin’ series is to raise awareness about the safety hazards of the Colorado Bridge and raise money for improvements. The BPTA is working with Bend Parks and Rec, the Old Mill District and many other public and private entities in hopes to transform the bridge into a public whitewater play park.

Last month for the Moon Mountain Ramblers show, $2000 was raised to support the BPTA as well as the Miller Landing Project. SteamIt Productions, who share a building with Tumalo Creek, streamed the event live from our website and dozens of people around the country tuned in to watch the live show. This month, the event will again stream from our events page and our fundraising efforts will expand out to our online viewers who can see the show and make donations from our homepage: www.tumalocreek.com

September 22 is also a very special date because we will be raffling off a hand-crafted cedar kayak made by Greg Bridges. Raffle tickets are $10 and all proceeds benefit the BPTA. Bridges has also planned a canoe launch for 5:30 on the 22nd to show off the work of his wooden boat building class. The public is welcome to take her out for a paddle during this time.
